The "five-star experience" at Skylark apartments is a pipe dream.
It's not particularly easy to get through to personnel when help is needed. The attached photos will visually articulate what I see when I come out my door. Every year, like clock-work, the rent is raised substantially but the service and services seeking to justify it are negligible. As a longtime resident of 25 years I, along with other long term residents, have become a "sitting duck" for yearly rent increases as my resources, at 83, decline. The change of ownership of the Skylark Apartments from one family to a corporation has, in my view, wrought a misfortune on the community as a whole.

Our Skylark Apartments experience was entirely wonderful. The positive approach started at the get-go when our rental agent, Channel, remembered some important personal information I had shared with her in helping to choose places for us to see. Most agents would not have bothered, as was our experience elsewhere. We loved the properties we saw and the location is a truly marvel! The views alone would make you glad to be home every day. The apartment rooms are a good size and the layouts very comfortable. Though some units only have stairs, it is possible to find some that only has a few stairs up or down to your place. And if stairs are out of the question, there are apartments with an elevator. Ultimately, we choose a different place to rent but only due to proximity to work. Traffic in CA is an important consideration in making the choice of where to live. If it wasn't for that, Skylark was on top of the list. I highly recommend this location to anyone looking to live in Marin.

Lovely and peaceful property tucked away into a mountain. Great sun with trees for shade, couple pools to cool off for them dog days in August. Fitness center is proper too. Toured one 2 bedroom apartment, very clean, nice layout, and size comparable to most in Marin. Met with the manager Chanel, she was very kind and informative. If my house sells soon and timing is right, I hope to call Skylark home for a couple of years. I recommend.

Joan and Chanelle in front office are absolute gems. Joan was my leasing agent and helped me get into my apartment with the quickness as I had a quick time schedule. I absolutely love living here it’s been about a month. For reference I live on the top floor in a studio. Design makes it feel much bigger. I hear occasional noise but feel the bottom units as typical have more trouble with this. Having a one year old daughter I already received a note about early morning foot steps from another tenant. Rugs will be put down and overall tone was nice and pleasant so neighborliness I’d say 9/10 so far. But hey if this concerns you I suggest a top floor unit kind of goes with the territory.

STAY AWAY - I really wanted to like this place. Larkspur is a beautiful town with great hiking trails close by. The major issue overall was our move-out experience. We only lived in the unit for 11 months, barely caused any damages and the place was pretty much in exact condition from when we moved in (white paint sprayed everywhere, even on the tile, baseboard etc.)

After moving out, we got hit with a bill of $400 and no security deposit back. The main red flag was most of this bill was toward freshly painting the whole unit again which seemed absurd and unneeded. You would think this all would be normal wear n tear type stuff if there was spot painting to be done but we were stuck with the bill without any warning/explanation.

After finally getting Mike on the phone, they were unable to provide us any before/after images, no proof of invoice or even a reason why they felt the need to do a full unit painting job.

We had several conversations with Mike regarding this billing issue, and he assured us that he would provide more details and remove the charge from our record. Despite our in-person visits and calls almost every other week, we saw little progress. Then, after finally receiving confirmation that the charge had been removed, we were surprised to receive notice that the bill had been sent to collections.

This situation has all been very disappointing and has left us concerned about the accountability of this organization. Seems like a shady property and highly recommend to stay away

Joan was very jolly and warm. She answered all our queries and provided a tour of the 1 bed and 1 bath apartments. Since we liked the community and staff so much already applied for one of the units, just awaiting confirmation.
Cant wait to move in to the serene Marin, housed in Skylark Community

I submitted a request weeks ago about a loud noise coming from the freezer section of my fridge, though it was intermittent. I received an automated response from Lilli (new AI feature I assume?) acknowledging the request, but no maintenance person ever followed up or came by. Since the noise hasn’t returned, I didn’t pursue it further—but it would’ve been nice to have someone from maintenance acknowledge the issue directly. -Hilary

Channel at the leasing office was super nice! She makes you excited to live in those apartments and she makes you feel like she really cares about your needs. Our experience touring the place easily puts it at the top of our list of apartments to move in to!
