It's a long hike to get to the scenery. I had read that you can drive in on certain Saturdays, but they no longer do this per one of the locals. Lots of people there with dogs... not all on leashes!

This is a massive preserve managed by Southwest Florida water management district and is a series of limestone quarries filled with fresh water. The hurricane flooded part of this preserve and killed several thousand pine trees with the salt water inundation. Lots of hiking trails. There are so many hiking trails here all of the well maintained.

It's a nice park with many walking options. You have to walk quite a distance before you get to see anything scenic, so be prepared!

I love coming here with my dog, or to ride my bike, there are many beautiful lakes that have crystal clear water in the shallows, I come here often!

A primitive park primarily for hiking and biking, and dog walking, with no swimming or snorkeling or scuba in the lakes as posted, not safe, and no lifeguards! The preserve has few amenities, rustic, so BYO everything. Wildlife is usually in the north portion of the preserve to avoid us while most people stay in the south portion. Been 30 years since Weeki Wachee Preserve was established through the CARL program with recent improvements such as wood benches along the main entrance road, a good idea. A couple of covered picnic tables around the main lake should be replaced and a few more added, maybe available in government surplus, or built locally by the person(s) who made the benches? This is a go-to place for many people; the place should be going in the right direction with more of the amenities above.

A nice trail to walk around the water if you have the time, we took the western path and then back through the middle taking about 3hs. We saw a few turtles here and there and the occasional vulture. There are a few rest stop along the way where you can take a break. The restroom in the middle is closed but they put a dixi down so there is still the option.
